‘No Regrets’ Barcelona Sporting Director Deco Breaks Silence On Xavi Hernandez’s Exit

Deco the sporting director of Barca said that he does not regret Xavi’s exit who was the former manager of Barca. Xavi announced his exit back in January 2024, but by April, President Laporta made him reverse his decision and stay. Then, just three weeks later, Barca decided to let him go. The club got a lot of heat for this quick change and mixed messages about Xavi. People were upset at how this all played out, more so after Xavi thanked Laporta and Deco for their trust. Despite the mess, Deco sticks by the choice.

Deco Reflects On Xavi’s Exit But Stands By Decision

Deco, the Barcelona Sporting Director, said it was hard to let Xavi Hernandez go, but he believed it was the right choice. In an interview with the Sport he stated that “Xavi’s departure was not easy because he had won a league, he had entered the club at a difficult time and accepted the challenge, but last season was tough in every sense and that is why we decided that the best thing was a replacement on the bench.” Even after the controversy that took place, Deco still remained the same and said that “I don’t regret anything because I’m always direct and honest. Xavi will always be a friend and an important person in the history of Barca.”

Deco Clarifies Xavi’s Departure And Their Complicated History

Deco said that Xavi was the one to leave and he was not forced by the club to leave by the club. While explaing he stated that “We have a lot of affection for him, but football is football. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you think and you have to change. And we can’t forget that the first one to take the step of leaving was Xavi, and then he changed his mind, and that whole drama ensued.” Their past has been rocky since they played for Frank Rijkaard. Xavi is said to have wanted Deco gone when Pep Guardiola came. They did not agree much when they were coach and sport boss either.
