No political agenda: Nitish Kumar on his meeting with INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday said there is no political agenda for his meeting with Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief and former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.

“I have respect for him. We have longstanding ties and had told to meet him once I’ll be in Delhi. There isn’t any political agenda for this meeting,” Kumar said.

On Tuesday, Chautala had said he will start contacting Opposition leaders to forge a “third front” at the national level and also revealed plans to have a lunch meeting with BJP ally and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Chautala had said the biggest need of the hour is to get rid of the “anti-people” and “anti-farmer” government at the Centre, and before September 25, the birth anniversary of his father and former deputy PM Devi Lal, he will try to meet Opposition leaders and urge them to come on one platform.

“It will be our endeavour to form a strong third front,” said Mr Chautala, who was recently released from jail after serving a 10-year sentence in a recruitment scam.

Kumar’s remarks come after JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha heaped praise on the Bihar chief minister, calling him ‘Prime Minister material’.

“People made Narendra Modi Prime Minister and today he is doing good work. But there are other leaders in the country who have the potential to become the Prime Minister. Nitish Kumar is one of such leaders. Nitish Kumar has all the capability of becoming the Prime Minister and there is no doubt about that. He should be called PM-material. It is not about challenging Prime Minister Modi.”

then asked about his views on whether Nitish Kumar will be projected as the Prime Ministerial face, Kushwaha said, “We are in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and firmly support the alliance. There is no discussion in this for now.”
