‘No meeting of MPs, MLAs called by Punjab CM’: Media Advisor

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has not called any meeting of party MLAs and MPs at his residence, confirmed his media advisor on Monday.

The Punjab CM has neither planned nor sent invites for any such event to anybody, added the official.

Reports have been doing rounds that a vexed Punjab CM has called a meeting of state Congress MLAs and MPs following the appointment of Navjot Singh Sidhu as the Punjab Congress chief.

Reacting to reports, Punjab CM’s media advisor Raveen Thukral said, “Some media reports suggesting that Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has invited Congress MLAs and MPs from the state for lunch on July 21 are incorrect. He has not planned or sent invites for any such lunch.”

The clarification has come a day after nine out of 11 Congress MPs from the state met at the residence of Partap Singh Bajwa and discussed the current political situation in the state.

The MPs, however, said the meeting was convened to discuss the issues to be raised in the Monsoon Session of Parliament starting Monday.

“Any decision taken by party president Sonia Gandhi will be acceptable to all,” Bajwa, who is a close aide to Amarinder Singh, told reporters.

“There are no differences within the Congress and issues are raised in any active party. The Congress will win the next assembly elections,” he said.

He said any internal matter would be discussed within the organisation and not in the media.
