Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga said he will continue to raise his voice against the AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal, a day after his dramatic arrest and rescue.
“No matter one or 100 FIRs are registered against me, I will keep raising issues of dishonouring of Guru Granth Sahib and Kejriwal’s insult to Kashmiri Pandits,” Bagga said while speaking to mediapersons at his Janakpuri residence in Delhi on Saturday.
Bagga was arrested by Punjab Police from his home in Delhi on Friday, evoking a war of words between BJP and AAP. He was brought back to the national capital by Delhi Police hours later.
The BJP leader said he was labelled as a “disruptive” leader by political opponents, including the AAP, as he was exposing them on social media and in the field too.
Bagga claimed that following his arrest, the police tried to persuade him to desist from raising issues pertaining to dishonouring of Guru Granth Sahib and ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie.
“They told me why was I getting myself involved with matters of other state when I lived in Delhi,” Bagga claimed.
High-voltage drama over Bagga’s arrest
Bagga’s arrest triggered a high-voltage drama that drew in the police of three states and also led to an exchange of barbs between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP accused the Punjab Police of “abducting” its leader and alleged that the AAP was pursuing vendetta through the state police. The AAP, however, refuted the charge and said the Bagga was arrested for allegedly stoking communal tensions in Punjab.
Last month, the Punjab Police registered a case against Bagga at Mohali for allegedly issuing provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation.
Bagga was booked under relevant IPC sections, including 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place, etc.), 505 (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The April 1 FIR referred to Bagga’s remarks on March 30, when he was part of a BJP youth wing protest outside the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
Earlier today, a local court in Punjab’s Mohali issued a fresh arrest warrant against Bagga.
