Nikki Haley starts online petition to stop Biden administration from recognising Taliban govt in Afghanistan

Republican leader and diplomat Nikki Haley has started an online petition to stop the Joe Biden administration from recognising the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Slamming the US government for its actions in the war-torn country that is now being ruled by the Taliban, Haley said that Afghanistan was ‘peaceful’ during the four years of the Trump administration.

“I can’t believe this is even necessary to say, but under this administration, it is: America must not recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan,” Haley said in a tweet as she shared the link of the petition. In the petition, Haley said that the US must ‘refuse’ to acknowledge the Taliban as a legitimate regime or head of the government.

“The Taliban must be denied the legitimacy of American recognition or aid. That’s why I’m asking you to join me in signing the petition calling on President Biden to refuse to recognize the Taliban as Afghanistan’s official government,” the petition read.

Biden administration ‘humiliated’ the US in front of the world: Haley

Backing the move, Haley said that in the seven months of its administration, the Joe Biden government has ‘surrendered’ to the Taliban and ‘humiliated’ the United States in front of the world by negotiating with the ‘devil’. “You negotiate with the devil from the point of strength,” she said.

While the Joe Biden administration has not yet clarified its stand on recognising the Taliban, the US government has clarified that it will judge the Taliban by its actions, and not by its words. Earlier today, Biden warned that China has a problem with the Taliban as a result of which they are working out an agreement with the group. “So they’re going to try to work out some arrangement with Taliban, I’m sure. As does Pakistan, as does Russia, as does Iran. They’re all trying to figure out what do they do now,” Biden said.
