NIA attaches multiple properties of Jaish-e-Mohammed terror operative in J-K in 2017 CRPF Centre attack case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached multiple properties belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror operatives in Jammu and Kashmir, specifically linked to the 2017 ‘fidayeen’ attack on the CRPF Group Centre in Lethpora, Pulwama. The attachments are part of a continued crackdown on terror networks and their funding, with the NIA seizing properties belonging to key conspirators.

The attachment action, taken under Section 33 (1) of UA (P) Act, 1967, in pursuance of recent orders of the NIA Special Court at Jammu, comes as a major step towards dismantling the terror outfits operating in J&K.

The attached properties largely belong to Fayaz Ahmad Magray a resident of Lethpora, who was arrested in February 2019.

Several properties of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror operative Fayaz Ahmed Magray in J&K have been attached under UA(P) Act in a 2017 case of Fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp, in which 5 personnel were killed & 3 seriously injured.

The immovable properties attached by NIA include several pieces of land and residential premises in Lethpora in Awantipora police station area of Pulwama district of J&K. NIA had charged him under various sections of RPC and UA (P) Act in August 2019, and the trial against him is continuing

Earlier, in May 2023, the NIA attached six shops belonging to Magray located in Lethpora.

The seizures were carried out based on orders from the NIA Special Court in Jammu, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The CRPF camp, located in Lethpora, was attacked on the night of 30th December 2017 by three JEM terrorists, armed with sophisticated weapons, explosives, and ammunition. The trio had forced their way into the camp and attacked the personnel there resulting in the martyrdom of five CRPF personnel and injuries to three others.

Later in retaliation all three terrorists involved in the attack were killed by security forces.

NIA Investigations had revealed Fayaz to be an active Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the proscribed JeM terror organization in South Kashmir. He was found to have participated in the meetings with the terrorists who had planned and executed the deadly attack on the CRPF center. Along with two other men, identified as Noor Mohammad Tantray and Mudasir Ahmad Khan, Jaish operatives he had also conducted a Reece of the target camp, besides arranging weapons for Mudasir and subsequently helping him escape Lethpora.  Noor Mohammad was killed in an encounter with security forces before the CRPF camp attack while Mudasir was killed in another encounter later.

The NIA has intensified its crackdown, attaching 109 properties till now in Jammu and Kashmir to dismantle the terror infrastructure.
