Mutual consent has led to Neymar’s injury-depleted Al-Hilal contract with Saudi Pro League side cancelled. Having signed the team for €90m (£77.6m) in August 2023, the 32-year old Brazilian forward is haunt by injuries and has played only seven times. Neymar has played only twice this season since his 2017 £200m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain; he still retains the record as the most expensive football player in the world. Many sources have connected him closely with a comeback to his childhood team, Santos. Al-Hilal expressed gratitude to Neymar for his support and best wishes for his future career.

Injury Woes And Contract Termination

Al-Hilal where Neymar reportedly made £150m every year, had about seven months in his two year deal. Though he said upon joining that he wished to “write new sporting history,” his time in Saudi Arabia was marred by injuries. A world Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023 cause the Brazilian forward great injury when he tore his front cruciate tendon. Still not playing since then, he made a short comeback later that year in two games assuming a hamstring injury may held him sidelined in two games.

A Glittering Career Across Continents

Before his notable transfer to Barcelona in 2013, Neymar gained popularity at Santos with 136 goals in 225 games. Throughout his four years in Spain, he earned several awards along with two La Liga championships, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup, for 186 games played. Following his record-breaking £200m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, he earned five league titles and became the world’s most expensive player. Though he has not played for his country since his knee injury in 2023, he topped Pelé to be Brazil’s all-time leading male goal scorer with 78 goals shortly after his relocation to Saudi Arabia.
