New Rules For Hand Luggage On Flights! Know This Before Starting Your Holidays

As travel regulations tighten and airline policies evolve, a new hand luggage rule is set to change how we pack for our flights. Starting soon, passengers will be allowed to carry only one bag for their hand luggage, and it must not exceed 7kg. While this might sound like a challenge for some, it’s a move that aims to reduce delays, save space, and make air travel smoother. Whether you’re traveling for business or leisure, here’s everything you need to know about these new rules before your next flight.

Why The Change?

Due to the growing number of passengers at pre-embarkation security checkpoints, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which oversee airport security, have implemented stricter regulations regarding hand baggage. These enhanced measures are designed to ensure smoother security processes and to manage the increasing volume of travelers, helping to reduce delays and maintain safety standards across airports. By limiting passengers to one small bag, they aim to prevent overcrowding in overhead compartments and reduce the risk of damaged luggage. The 7kg weight limit ensures that each passenger’s hand luggage remains manageable and easy to store.

Packing Tips For The One-Bag Rule

Given the new hand luggage policy, packing efficiently is more important than ever. Here are some packing tips to help you stay within the limits-

  • Use lightweight luggage: Opt for a smaller, lightweight bag made from durable materials.
  •
  • Roll your clothes: Rolling instead of folding can save space and keep your clothes wrinkle-free.
  •
  • Minimize liquids: Many airlines still follow the 100ml liquid rule for carry-ons, so pack accordingly.
  •
  • Prioritize essentials: Only pack what you absolutely need for the flight, and leave room for any essentials you might pick up at the airport.

Exceptions

While most airlines follow the one-bag, 7kg policy, some may have specific exceptions, particularly for business class passengers. It’s essential to check with your airline before departure for any variations in these rules.

With these new hand luggage rules, it’s crucial to plan ahead. By packing wisely and understanding the new regulations, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free start to your holiday.
