All Indian citizens are required by law to have a mandatory government-approved identification card to stay in the country legally. In India, such identification cards include Aadhaar and PAN cards. The Government of India continues to work on improving the system to prevent various cases of fraud, scams, immigration issues, etc. The rules are regularly updated. Recently, in a significant move against fraud and scams, new rules have been introduced by the Government of India.

What Is The New Rule?

Among the new amendments, there is one particularly important rule that citizens must follow. In the new rules for PAN cards, all the Indian citizens are warned to link their PAN cards to Aadhaar before December 31, 2024. If you fail to link your PAN-Aadhaar, the government will deactivate your PAN Cards. To avoid any complications, PAN card holders must ensure their cards are updated according to the latest guidelines.

The Aadhaar card and PAN card have become crucial documents for Indian citizens. PAN stands for Permanent Account Number, and it is vital for certain transactions. In all the legal and finacial process, PAN card is a recognised document.

It is now mandatory to link your PAN Card with Aadhaar Card before 31 December, so, follow these simple steps for a smooth process:

  • Go to www.incometax.gov.in.
  • Go to Income Tax E-fiing portal,
  • Locate the ‘link Aadhaar’ option,
  • Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option under ‘Quick Links’.
  • Input your 10-digit PAN and 12-digit Aadhaar numbers.
  • Ensure your name matches on Aadhar Card and PAN Card, you may need to upload one out of two documents for verification.
  • If only the birth year appears on your Aadhaar, tick the checkbox confirming this information.
  • Enter captcha code.
  • Once you have verified all the options, click submit details.
  • After verifying all the documents, click ‘Link Aadhaar’.
  • A success message will appear if linked; an error message will guide you if it fails.
