Netanyahu Postpones India Visit Over Security Fears After Delhi Terror Attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again postponed his scheduled visit to India to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trip, planned for later this year, was delayed over heightened security concerns following a deadly terrorist attack in New Delhi two weeks ago, according to reports in Israeli media.

The attack, described as the worst in the Indian capital in over a decade, tragically killed at least 15 people and injured dozens. New dates for the visit are now expected to be sought for next year, pending comprehensive security assessments.

Postponement Follows Deadly Delhi Attack

The decision to delay the high-profile visit comes directly in the wake of the terror incident in New Delhi, which has reportedly triggered a security review by Israeli authorities.

Security Assessment: Citing sources, Israeli news outlet i24NEWS reported that the postponement is a direct result of the security environment following the New Delhi attack. The trip was intended to be Netanyahu’s first visit to India since 2018.

New Timeline: Netanyahu is now expected to seek a window to reschedule the visit for next year (2026), contingent upon improved security conditions and assessments.

Third Cancellation in a Single Year

This latest postponement of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s India visit marks the third cancellation this year alone, highlighting a pattern of repeated delays, though the underlying reasons have varied.

While the current cancellation (late 2025) is attributed to pressing Security Concerns following the major terrorist attack in New Delhi, the earlier two postponements were rooted in domestic politics.

The first instance, earlier in 2025, was cancelled due to Scheduling Issues directly preceding the April Israeli elections.

A second cancellation occurred on September 9, 2025, also citing Scheduling Issues necessitated by the unprecedented repeat polls held in Israel on September 17.

Diplomatic Ties And Political Stature

The cancellation interrupts the strong diplomatic momentum built between India and Israel over recent years, driven largely by the close personal relationship between PM Modi and PM Netanyahu.

Historical Context: PM Modi made a landmark trip to Tel Aviv in 2017, becoming the first serving Indian Prime Minister to visit the Jewish state, followed by PM Netanyahu’s reciprocal visit in January 2018.

Political Leverage: The close chemistry between the two leaders has often been highlighted by the Israeli press. During his recent political campaign, Netanyahu made sure to highlight images with PM Modi alongside leaders like US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin as an attempt to project a leader of unparalleled global stature, indispensable for Israel’s security.
