Navjot Singh Sidhu withdraws his resignation as Punjab Congress chief

A month after tendering resignation from Punjab Congress chief post, Navjot Singh Sidhu  announced that he has withdrawn his resignation.

While confirming his withdrawal, the Congress leader said that his decision to resign from the post was not a matter of “personal ego” but in the “interest of every Punjabi”.

“I will assume charge as Punjab Congress chief when the new Attorney General will be appointed,” said Sidhu during a press conference.

Talking about current Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Sidhu said, “I have been meeting him for a long time. I have been speaking to him for the last one month. The first meeting was in Punjab Bhavan, at that time the thing was that panel (on DGP) will come and in one week things will be settled. It’s a 90 days govt,50 days have gone.”

“There’s nothing personal. I speak to him for the state. I speak to him for all the good that can be done for the state. I have no differences with Charanjit Channi, not at all. Whatever I do is for Punjab. I stand for Punjab. Punjab is my soul. That’s the goal,” he added.

“During the last 4.5 years, I have raised many issues such as liquor, buses, etc. CM had centralised power but didn’t take any action. I don’t have any greed for a post but I only fight for Punjab’s people’s rights. I’ll make Congress win 80-100 seats in 2022 polls,” he continued saying.

He had resigned from the position on 28 September and announced his decision in a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

In his letter, Sidhu had written: “The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise to Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. (sic)”

He was reportedly upset over the bureaucratic setup and his commands not being followed after the Cabinet expansion in Punjab.

He was appointed as the president of the Punjab Congress on July 23 this year following months of turmoil in the state Congress unit.

After the tussle in Punjab Congress between Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh escalated in August, the party had appointed Sidhu as the Congress chief apparently against the wishes of then Chief Minister.
