N Chandrasekaran gets 5-year extension as Tata Sons chairman

N Chandrasekaran will continue as the Tata Sons chief after the company’s board extended his tenure for the 2nd term on Friday. The board meeting held at Bombay House decided to keep Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons chairman for another 5 years.

Chandrasekaran present term was due to end on February 20, 2022.

“At its meeting on 11 February 2022, the Board of Tata Sons reviewed the last five years and considered the reappointment of its Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran,” ET cited the company’s official statement.

Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, who was a special invitee to this meeting expressed his satisfaction on the progress and performance of the Tata Group under the leadership of N Chandrasekaran.

The company statement added that Tata recommended Chandrasekaran’s term be renewed for a further five-year period. The Board members also commended the performance of the Executive Chairman and unanimously approved the reappointment of Mr. N Chandrasekaran.

On being given the helm of the company yet again, Chandrasekaran exuded joy saying, “It has been a privilege to lead the Tata Group for the last five years and I am delighted at the opportunity to lead the Tata Group for another five years, in its next phase.”

Earlier, ET Now reported that N Chandrasekaran will be reappointed for a 2nd term. 58-year-old Chandrasekaran is the first non-family professional executive to lead Tata Sons.

N Chandrasekaran took over the reins of Tata Sons five years back in 2017. He lead the firm when it was going through a leadership turmoil along with trust deficit after the ouster of Cyrus Mistry, by the board. And in no time, Chandra steered Tata Sons to growth.

One of the major victories under Chandra is Tata getting Air India besides the winning battle against Mistry in the Supreme Court.
