Former Pakistan legspinner Mushtaq Ahmed has rejoined the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling consultant for the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa.
Previous Engagements
Mushtaq was part of the coaching staff that accompanied the team to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan. He couldn’t accompany them on tour to India as he had some prior commitments that he had to take care of first. He was looking forward to rejoining the team once those commitments were fulfilled.
Coaching Returns
During a recent net session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on October 19, Mushtaq was actively involved in guiding the players and engaging in discussions with the newly appointed head coach, Phil Simmons, who recently took over from Chandika Hathurusinghe.
Future Plans With BCB
“Mushtaq is here for the South Africa series. Whenever he is available, he will work with us series by series,” said a senior BCB official. The board officials have already mentioned that they are eyeing to sign a long-term contract with Mushtaq by the end of the year if he is available.
What’s Ahead?
It remains to be seen whether he will play in the ODI series against Afghanistan and the West Indies, which is scheduled before signing a long-term deal, by Mushtaq’s schedule and the BCB’s requirements.
