Mumbai Court Issues Notice To Rhea Chakraborty Over CBI Closure Report In Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case

A Mumbai magistrate court has sent a notice to actress Rhea Chakraborty after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed its closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI had filed the report in March 2025, stating that no criminal evidence was found against those who were earlier accused. The notice is a procedural step, giving the complainant an opportunity to object to the investigating agency’s decision to close the case.

During the hearing after the case closure, Magistrate R. D. Chavan directed, “Issue notice to the original informant / victim / aggrieved person,” and adjourned the hearing until it was ensured that Rhea has received the notice. She has been asked to respond by August 12. The court’s directive is part of due process, allowing the complainant to formally object to the investigative agency’s decision to close the case.

Rhea Chakraborty had previously filed a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, along with Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram, alleging they facilitated the procurement of prescription medication for Sushant without proper medical consultation.

Rhea claimed that Sushant was suffering from bipolar disorder but would stop taking medicines at times. He also alleged that Sushant’s sister had ordered medicines through text messages by making fake prescriptions. Her FIR invoked sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

For the unversed, Sushant was found dead in his house in Mumbai on 14 June 2020. His death triggerd widespread media attention and multiple parallel investigations. Sushant’s father had filed a separate FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of abetment to suicide and financial exploitation, which Rhea has repeatedly rejected.

The CBI took over the investigation from the Mumbai and Bihar police and has now concluded that there is no evidence of foul play. The court will next consider the matter after Chakraborty submits her response to the notice.
