MS Dhoni will not charge any fee to mentor Virat Kohli’s Team India at ICC World T20: Sourav Ganguly

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has revealed that legendary cricketer MS Dhoni will not charge a single penny for mentoring Virat Kohli-led Team India in the 2021 edition of the ICC World T20. After captaining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday at Dubai, Dhoni will join the Team India camp as the mentor of the Men In Blue for the ICC World T20.

The BCCI had confirmed Dhoni’s appointment as the mentor of the Kohli-led side while announcing the star-studded 15-member squad of the 2007 world champions. Hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman, the 2021 edition of the ICC World T20 is scheduled to start from October 17. Team India will open their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Dubai.

Speaking ahead of the ICC World T20, BCCI chief Ganguly confirmed that Dhoni will not be taking any fee for his new role at the Team India. “Dhoni will not charge anything to mentor the Indian team,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Speaking to news agency ANI, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also asserted that the former Team India captain is not charging any honorarium for his services as the mentor of the Kohli-led side for the T20 World Cup.

Regarded as one of the greatest leaders in the history of the gentlemen’s game, Dhoni guided Team India to three major ICC titles. Under Dhoni’s leadership, India won the inaugural edition of the ICC World T20 in 2007, the 50-over World Cup in 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. The legendary cricketer is also the only captain to have won three major ICC titles in the international arena.

The Ranchi stalwart had called time on his illustrious international career in 2020. Dhoni played his final international game against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup at Old Trafford. The 40-year-old represented Team India in 90 Tests, 350 One Day Internationals (ODI) and 98 T20Is.
