Motivated criticism…no relation between expenditure on health sector and Central Vista project: Hardeep Puri

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri lashed out at the Opposition saying that a false narrative is being created over the Central Vista project and advised them to consider ‘limitation of decency’ while commenting on it.

In an exclusive conversation with Times Now’s Group Editor Navika Kumar, the Union Minister stated that there was no relationship between the expenditure on the health sector and the money being spent on the Central Vista project.

“Some of the people who are criticising the Central Vista project should consider ‘limitation of decency’. There is a completely legitimate book on the project. A new Parliament was needed because the current one lies in seismic zone 4 and because the country will be celebrating its 75th anniversary as an independent country in 2022,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court today dismissed a plea against the Central Vista Project saying it was “motivated” and filed with “ill-intent” and “lack of bonafides”. The Court also described it as a “vital and essential” project of national importance.

The Central Vista Redevelopment Project in the heart of New Delhi has run into a sharp controversy especially over its timing and continuing construction during the peak times of Covid19 in India.

The project will see a complete revamp of India’s central and iconic administrative area, including the construction of a new Parliament, new buildings to the House of the central ministries, and new residential complexes for the Prime Minister and Vice President of India.

Hardeep Puri attacks Rahul Gandhi

Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who has been critical of the Central Vista project, the senior BJP leader said “Rahul Gandhi says ‘Modi Mahal ban raha hai’, lot of people take that as a narrative.”

While dealing out the government’s plan, Puri said the government has defined a set of components in the Central Vista project, and it has only attempted the first two and the third one is in the pipeline. “In the next phase, we have to take up three of those buildings out of the 10,” he said.
