Mohammad Amir Announced Retirement: Key Highlights Of His International Career

Ace Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket by sharing a heartfelt post on his official social media handles. This was the second time Amir bid adieu to international cricket as he came out retirement earlier to play the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. However, the latter wasn’t able to showcase any grace performance due to which he decided to hang his shoes. Amir’s international career has been full of ups and downs. The latter who made his debut back in 2009 and could bowl at serious pace was indulged in an ugly spot fixing scandal after which he was banned for five. However, he made a brilliant comeback in 2016 and played an important role in helping Pakistan win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. A look at the key highlights of his international career:

Key Highlights Of Mohammad Amir’s International Career

  1. Mohammad Amir began his international career with a bang and became the third youngest fast-bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in a Test match. Amir achieved figures of 5/79 during the boxing day Test against Australia in Melbourne. The former Pakistani pacer was just 17 years and 257 days at that time.
  2. Despite being among the most effective bowlers for Pakistan during the start of his career, Mohammad Amir suffered a major low when he was involved in an ugly spot fixing scandal during the England vs Pakistan Test match in 2010.
  3. Mohammad Amir was sent to jail and banned for five years from playing international cricket. This was certainly a phase where missed out on his golden days of international career.
  4. The former Pakistani pacer made his international comeback in 2016 during a T20I match against New Zealand. Amir bowled at serious pace and showcased a glimpse of the same during an Asia Cup match in same where he dismissed great Indian batters such as Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane for ducks in same over.
  5. Amir retired from international cricket in 2023 and alleged that he wasn’t offered support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, he took a u-turn from his decision when he out of retirement to play the T20 World Cup 2024.
  6. As Mohammad Amir has retired from international cricket it looks like he will focus more on playing T20 leagues and is expected to soon get a British citizenship after which he will also be eligible for playing in IPL.
