‘Modi ji silently waiting for Achhe Din’: Rahul Gandhi on torture of Arunachal youth by China’s PLA

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led BJP government over the alleged torture of Arunachal Pradesh youth Miram Taron by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

His reaction comes a day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Arunachal Pradesh Tapir Gao claimed that Taron, who was handed over to India by the PLA on January 27, days after he went missing, was given electric shock and was beaten up.

In a tweet, the Wayanad MP said that after occupying India’s land, China is now kidnapping and torturing its citizens while Narendra Modi is silently waiting for ‘Achhe Din’.

Rahul Gandhi calls torture of Arunachal youth ‘embarrassing’

Embarrassing, the Congress MP said.

On Wednesday, the BJP MP called the torture a serious matter and urged the government to raise this issue with the authorities concerned.

This issue is not limited to Miram Taron, Gao said adding that Arunachal has dense jungles in border areas where intruding PLA troops abduct the locals when they go hunting and collecting herbs.

Such incidents will keep happening until we resolve the boundary, he said.

‘Today they are giving an electric shock, tomorrow they will also shoot’

Today they are giving an electric shock, tomorrow they will also shoot, Gao said and demanded a flag meeting between the Indian Army and the Chinese PLA.

A settlement should come that this kind of thing should not happen in the future and the Indian Government, ITBP, Army should look into this matter, Gao said.

On Wednesday, Rahul had criticized the foreign policy of the BJP-led government in the Parliament alleging that the Centre has committed a crime of bringing China and Pakistan together and made a “huge strategic mistake” in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The single biggest strategic goal of India’s foreign policy has been to keep Pakistan and China separate. What you (Centre) have done is, you have brought them together,” he had said.

His statement invited a sharp rebuttal from External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar who said that some history lessons are in order and that Pakistan illegally handed over the Shaksgam Valley to China in 1963 when a Congress government was in office.
