Marcus Stoinis Retires From ODI Cricket Ahead Of Champions Trophy

Marcus Stoinis has retired from ODI cricket just ahead of Champions Trophy 2025 with immediate effect to focus on T20 cricket. The World Cup-winning member has made a shocking decision to retire but he will continue to be available for national representation in the T20I format.

Marcus Stoinis was named in Australia’s 15-member squad for Champions Trophy, the tournament is scheduled to start from February 19. The 35-year old all-rounder has been playing fro Durban’s Super Giants in the South Africa T20 (SA20) where he sustained a mild hamstring injury while bowling.

“Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold,” Stoinis said today as quoted by Cricket Australia

“Representing my country at the highest level is something I’ll always cherish.

“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career.

“I’ve got a fantastic relationship with Ron (Australia men’s team coach Andrew McDonald) and I’ve hugely appreciated his support.

Marcus Stoinis has played 71 ODI matches in which he has scored 1495 runs, which includes one century and six half-centuries. He has also picked 48 wickets and established himself as Australia’s top all-rounder.
