Unni Mukundan’s latest film, Marco, has become one of the most talked-about Malayalam films of 2024. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the film is lauded for its intense action and is being hailed as one of the most violent films in Indian cinema. However, Marco faced a major setback when it was leaked online, threatening its success.

In response to the piracy issue, Unni Mukundan released a heartfelt appeal on social media, urging fans to stop watching pirated versions. He expressed his frustration, writing, “Please don’t watch pirated movies. We are helpless. I’m feeling helpless. Only YOU can stop this. By not watching/downloading the films online. It’s a request.”

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) also expressed concern, with many highlighting the growing issue of piracy in the Malayalam film industry. One user pointed out, “Mollywood is facing a new wave of concern over piracy,” referencing several recent film leaks, including SookshmaDarshini and Marco.

Marco Box Office Collection

Despite the piracy setback, Marco continues to perform exceptionally well at the box office. The film, which had a Rs. 30 crore budget, was released on December 20, 2024, in both Malayalam and Hindi. The Telugu version premiered on January 1, 2025, and due to positive audience feedback, 140 extra shows were added to the Hindi version. Marco even outperformed Varun Dhawan’s Baby John at the box office.

The film saw a massive jump in revenue, with Sacnilk reporting a 151.85% increase on New Year’s Day, earning Rs. 3.4 crore net. The total box office collection stands at Rs. 142.05 crore in India. Additionally, Marco is set to be released in Korea, marking a significant achievement for South Indian cinema. Unni Mukundan shared the news on X, writing, “After Bahubali, Marco sets a new benchmark in South Indian Film Industry! Making history by having the biggest release for an Indian movie in Korea!”

Marco continues to captivate audiences, earning praise for its gripping storyline and intense action sequences. Despite facing piracy challenges, the film has managed to achieve significant box office success and is now making history with its release in international markets like Korea.
