Malayalam Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Accused Of Harassment; Faces Legal Trouble AGAIN

Renowned Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is once again embroiled in legal trouble. He has been booked by the Elamakkara police station based on a complaint filed by a prominent female actor, who alleges that he insulted her modesty.

The complaint stems from multiple social media posts where Sanal allegedly tagged the actor and shared audio messages claiming they were hers. A look out notice has also been issued by the police as the filmmaker is currently in US. As reported by Mathrubhumi, the Kerala police is in touch with the Indian Embassy regarding the case.

History of The Case

Sanal confirmed the police action on social media, stating that he had previously faced legal action in 2022 based on a complaint from the same actor, who accused him of repeatedly “insulting and threatening” her online by claiming her “life was in danger.”

In his latest post, Sanal questioned the lack of investigation into the 2022 case, stating, “The false case filed against me in your name three years ago has not yet been investigated. Neither has your statement been recorded nor has any evidence been produced.”

He maintained that he had informed the actor, her relatives, and close friends in advance about his intention to publicly address his concerns regarding her safety. “I shared all this with the general public, supported by the audio recording of our conversation, because I was not allowed to talk to you and was disturbed by the frightening living conditions you have described,” Sanal wrote. He believes the new case is an attempt to suppress the audio clip and prevent any public discussion of the matter.

“Anyway, this police case (against me) is to ensure that you don’t make a public statement or hold a press conference to reveal the truth of the matter to the public,” he noted. Despite facing legal action, Sanal remains undeterred and urged the media to investigate the truth of the matter.

This latest controversy follows a series of legal and public disputes for Sanal. In May 2023, he faced criticism for releasing his film “Vazhakku (The Quarrel)” online without the consent of co-producer and actor Tovino Thomas.
