Speaking at a function organised by the BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) undertaking to induct more electric buses into its fleet, the Chief Minister said the representatives of hotels and restaurants demanded further relaxations in timings beyond 4 pm.

Thackeray told them that the curbs will be eased in a phased manner with utmost caution.

“The Maharashtra government is going to grant more relaxations, but we are taking every step cautiously. A decision will be taken for local train passengers as well. We need to ensure that these relaxations do not trigger another wave of COVID-19,” Thackeray said.

There has been an increasing demand that common people, who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, be allowed to board the local trains.

The state government had on Monday announced fresh relaxations in COVID-19 restrictions in the state, allowing all shops to remain open till 8 pm instead of the earlier restricted time of 4 pm in in 25 districts, which have reported a low positivity rate.

The government also said that all restaurants will remain open with 50 per cent seating capacity till 4 pm on weekdays subject Io adherence to all COVID-19 protocols.
