Maharashtra: Good News! Survey Of Karnala-Sai-Chirner Project To Begin SOON, Paving Way To India’s Data Center Hub

The Maharashtra government will begin surveys in 2025 for its ambitious Third Mumbai project, the Karnala-Sai-Chirner (KSC) New Town, located near Navi Mumbai. The new city aims to become a major hub for India’s data center industry, housing 65% of the country’s future data storage infrastructure.

Private companies will conduct ground and aerial surveys over 323 sq km, covering hills, forests, and agricultural land. Drone technology will be used for initial data collection, followed by Lidar systems for detailed analysis. A separate entity will prepare the vision report, master plan, and development strategy for the city.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will manage aerial surveys to verify ground data and land ownership details. Geographic Information System (GIS) maps will be used to help with planning and analysis.

This project is part of a larger effort to improve travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. It supports India’s economic development goals set by NITI Aayog, the government’s policy think tank. The Third Mumbai project is expected to strengthen the region’s infrastructure and technology sectors, helping to make it a key part of India’s growing digital economy.
