Tokyo Olympics 2020 was a memorable one for young Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain as she became the third Indian boxer after Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to bag a medal at the quadrennial event. Borgohain has become the talk of the town and as rewards continue to pour in for the boxer, at a felicitation ceremony on Thursday, she was announced as the DSP in Assam Police by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma went on to add that a Rs 25 crore sporting complex will be built in Saupathar in Golaghat district of Assam in Lovlina Borgohain’s name while a road in Guwahati will also be named as Lovlina Borgohain road.

Upon her return after making the country proud at Tokyo 2020, Lovlina received a grand welcome at the Guwahati airport on Thursday.

Sarma was present at the airport to receive her. Taking to Twitter, he said that the boxer has ignited a billion dreams with her success in Olympics.

Lovlina bagged bronze in Tokyo medal after she lost the women’s welterweight (64-69kg) semi-final bout to Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli.

Upon her arrival in India, Borgohain posted a video from her social media account where she was invited by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for an Assamese meal.

“Having home-style Assamese food after more than a year. I thank Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @sarbanandsonwal sir for welcoming me with such warmth and sharing a scrumptious meal,” Lovlina Borgohain tweeted.

Soon after she arrived in India from Tokyo, Lovlina said that her goal was to win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

“I want to say thank you to all. I am feeling good after coming back to India,” Lovlina told reporters at the airport. “I will try to change this bronze to gold.” Talking about her plans for the future, she reiterated: “I want to bring a gold medal in Paris Olympics.”
