After clinching his first major international title with Argentina, Lionel Messi is set to extend his stay at Camp Nou by signing a new deal with La Liga giants Barcelona. Before the start of the 2021-2022 season, Messi and Barcelona have reportedly cut a deal that will keep the six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Camp Nou for five more years. As per recent developments, Messi is on the verge of signing a five-year deal with Barcelona in the coming weeks.

Messi guided the La Albiceleste to Copa America glory in the recently concluded edition of the elite South American tournament. The Argentina captain emerged as the top scorer of the international tournament and the Barcelona legend also shattered multiple records for the two-time World Cup winners. During the Copa America tournament, the world’s highest-paid footballer had become a free agent as Messi’s previous deal with Barcelona had ended on July 1.

Even though Messi had earlier expressed his desire to leave Barcelona, the talismanic forward of the Catalan giants was tipped to sign a new deal with the La Liga giants after the conclusion of the Copa America. According to a report filed by Goal.com, Messi will sign a new deal with Barcelona, and the Argentine stalwart is set to take a massive wage cut in order to extend his stay at Camp Nou

Messi had spent his entire career as a Barcelona player so far and Little Magician is likely to end his career at Camp Nou. Messi is set to take a 50 percent wage cut in his long-term deal. Barcelona’s all-time top scorer and record appearance maker had made his debut at Camp Nou in 2004. Barcelona have also made free signings like Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Eric Garcia before the start of the new season.
