Lionel Messi-led Barcelona confirm Aguero’s signing from Manchester City after UEFA Champions League final

One of the many reasons for Lionel Messi to stay at Barcelona has just made his way to Camp Nou as Argentine striker Sergio Aguero has completed his much-awaited switch from Manchester City on Monday. Dubbed as one of the greatest strikers in the modern era of the English Premier League (EPL), Aguero has joined Messi’s Barcelona from Manchester City on a free transfer.

Aguero, who failed to guide Manchester City to its maiden UEFA Champions League title on Sunday was tipped to join forces with Messi at Barcelona after the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. Aguero recorded his final appearance in Man City colours last week when Pep Guardiola’s men were upstaged by Thomas Tuchel-coached Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final at the Estadio do Dragao

“The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season and his buy-out clause is set at 100 million euros,” the La Liga giants said in an official statement. Aguero spent 10 seasons with Manchester City and the legendary striker ended his iconic stint at Etihad last season. Aguero signed off as Manchester City’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals across all competitions.

In his final Premier League appearance for Man City, Aguero managed to break Wayne Rooney’s record of scoring the most number of goals for a single club in the English top flight. Former Manchester City striker Aguero scored 184 Premier League goals for the newly crowned EPL champions in his decade-long stint with the club

After Alan Shearer (260), Rooney (208), and Andrew Cole (187), Aguero is ranked fourth in the list of Premier League’s all-time leading goal scorers. Besides Aguero, Man City star Eric Garcia is also in talks to join Barcelona before the start of the new season. Barcelona are also expected to sign Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window.
