Link PAN with Aadhaar for seamless banking services, says SBI to customers

international media news

India’s largest commercial lender, the State Bank of India (SBI) has urged its customers to link their permanent account number (PAN) with Aadhaar number to avoid any inconvenience and to continue enjoying seamless banking services.

“We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue enjoying a seamless banking service,” the lender tweeted. SBI further warned its account holders that if the two documents are not linked, the PAN will be rendered inoperative/inactive and cannot be quoted for conducting specified transactions.

The last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2022. In September, the government extended the deadline by six months till March 2022. “Time limit for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income-tax Department for linking of PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from 30th September 2021 to 31st March, 2022,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said. The two documents can be linked either via SMS or on the website of the Income Tax department.

How to link PAN with Aadhaar by SMS:

For linking via SMS, type UIDPAN<space><12-digit Aadhaar number><space><10-digit PAN> and send it to 567678 or 56161. Once the message is sent to either of the two numbers, PAN will be linked to the Aadhaar card.

How to link Aadhaar and PAN directly via new income tax e-filing website:

Step 1: Visit Direct link incometax.gov.in
Step 2: Click on Our services
Step 3: Enter PAN and Aadhaar Details Step
Step 4: Enter mobile number
Step 5: Tick on I agree to validate my Aadhaar details
Step 6: Click on LINK Aadhaar

How to check PAN-Aadhaar link status online?

On the new I-T portal, you can also check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar link. You just have to click on “Link Aadhaar Status” and input your PAN and Aadhaar number to see whether the documents have been linked successfully. You can also check your status through SMS. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, leave a space, and then type your 10-digit PAN number. Then, from your registered cellphone number, send the message to 567678 or 56161. The response will be sent as a message.

For the unversed, the linking of Aadhaar and PAN card is required since it allows the government to keep track of taxable financial activities and identify them. It assists in the prevention of tax evasion. Additionally, combining the Aadhaar and PAN cards prevents an individual from having numerous PAN cards in order to avoid paying taxes.
