Laxmii, Nishabdham and other recent films on OTT platforms that will make you cringe

Recently, Nawazuddin Siddiqui stated in an interview that he is not hopeful about the future of OTT content in India. He reasoned, “At the moment, bharmar ho raha hai (there is an overload). We have a tendency of herd mentality. With that, there will be a decline and there is no doubt about it. There is a possibility of going below the set level.”

He further added that we turn art into trade and that is not good for the future of OTT platforms, “Initially, it is art and then eventually turns into a business. I fear that it will seep into the OTT space as well, and woh jo low standard hota hai ke business ke purpose se kuch bhi dhikhao. Woh hoga and woh ho bhi raha hai (I fear the trend of showing anything and everything in the name of business. It will happen, in fact it has already begun).”

Well, there is some truth to what the maverick actor is saying. After the world went under lockdown due to coronavirus earlier this year, consumption of OTT content grew manifolds, especially in India. We witnessed a lot of movies which were meant for theatrical release taking the OTT routes. On the other hand, there were films that were OTT originals from the start.

However, not all of them were good or high on quality. There were many films that were good, some were bad and then there were others that were plain cringe-fest.

Take a look at the list of films that released during lockdown and were quite cringe-worthy of various proportions:

Nishabdham

Nishabdham: Here're all the first look posters that we have seen so far | The Times of India

One of the most cringe-worthy films of all time, Anushka Shetty, R Madhavan, Anjali, Subbaraju and Shalini Pandey starrer will test your patience and leave you annoyed. It’s a shame that this movie helmed by Hemant Madhukar marked the Indian film debut of Hollywood actor Michael Madsen.

Mrs Serial Killer

Mrs. Serial Killer: Jacqueline Fernandez, Manoj Bajpayee in the Netflix film

One movie that can give Nishabdham a tough competition when it comes to being the King of Cringe is Shirish Kunder directorial Mrs Serial Killer. The movie stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Manoj Bajpayee and Mohit Raina.

Laxmii
Laxmii release: Highlights | Entertainment News,The Indian Express

I will be honest, I expected a lot of fun from the film and sort of had high hopes but the Raghava Lawrence’s Bollywood debut as a director was as dismal as itr gets. The horror-comedy lacked horror and comedy. The performances, the sequences and the direction will definitely make your cringe.

Sadak 2

Sadak 2 Movie Review: Not worth taking a trip down this sadak

The only saving grace in this Mahesh Bhatt’s comeback as a director was Sanjay Dutt. The movie which found itself at the receiving end of trolls for reasons unrelated to it, Sadak 2 had Alia Bhatt delivering the worst performance of her career and badly executed sequences. Cringe-worthy enough for your to avoid it.

Miss India

Miss India Movie Streaming Online Watch on Netflix

Starring National Award winning actress Keerthy Suresh, Miss India was keenly anticipated by many. Let’s just say if you are averse to cringe content, Narendra Nath’s Miss India is not for you.

Virgin Bhanupriya

Fenil and Bollywood: (Crisp) Movie Review: VIRGIN BHANUPRIYA by FENIL SETA

Just when we thought that the cringe-worthy sex comedies were a thing of the past after the debacle of Mastizaade, Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Great Grand Masti, Virgin Bhanupriya starring Urvashi Rautela and Gautam Gulati proved everyone wrong. The movie is helmed by Ajay Lohan.

V

Nani's next film V to be released direct on Amazon Prime on Sept 5 - India International Times

This Mohana Krishna Indraganti directorial wasn’t as cringeworthy as other films in this list but still it was enough to make it here. The movie stars Nani, Sudheer Babu, Nivetha Thomas and Aditi Rao Hydari.
