The year 2020 saw the Kannada film industry suffere a lot with no films and releases. When the lockdown was lifted there was a sigh of relief among the filmmakers.

The present year came with a hope of normalcy everywhere. However, this year too is slowly proving to be unfortunate for the film industry. The second wave of COVID-19 has landed an unrepairable blow to the Sandalwood industry by taking the lives of many eminent film personalities.

A per latest reports by filmibeat, producer and distributor of Kannada film industry, Deepak Samidurai has passed away.

In fact, the famous audio company of the south Anand Audio paid its tribute to the young producer through its Twitter account. Sharing a pic of the producer, it has twitted, “RIP #AnandAudio Remembering the Iconic Producer & Distributor of #Gimmick #DeepakSamidurai Sir, Our Deepest Condolences To Family & Friends”.

The exact reason for Deepak’s death is yet to be known but, his untimely death has shocked the personalities of the film fraternity.

In his last venture, Deepak bankrolled the film Gimmick which was released in 2019. The film was directed by Naganna and had Goldenstar Ganesh and Ronica Singh in the lead roles.

Deepak had produced this film under his own banner Sami Pictures. It was a remake of the successful Tamil film Dhilluku Dhuddu which was released in 2016 and starred Santhanam and Anchal Singh in the lead roles. Deepak was also attached with Southside Studio as a distributor.

As a matter of fact, in the last one month, the Sandalwood industry has lost more than a dozen film personalities. It is indeed a shocking and sad phase for the industry.

It can be remembered that the industry has lost personalities like Koti Ramu an iconic producer, Renuka Sharma a veteran director who has directed hits like Kaviratna Kalidasa, Kindari Jogi, etc., veteran actor Shankanada Aravind who has worked in over 250 Kannada films, talented poster designer Mastan who has worked in over 2000 Kannada films, senior actor Rajaram, Young producer and actor Dr. D S Manjunath, young director Naveen Kumar, highly regarded make-up artist Srinivas in the last few days.
