Kannada actor Sanchari Vijay (38), who sustained major injuries in a road accident in Bengaluru on Saturday night, breathed his last at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Monday (June 14). Despite an emergency brain surgery, he could not be saved.

Although the actor had emergency surgery to stem the internal brain bleed, he was declared brain dead by the doctors treating him on Monday.

Actor Kichcha Sudeep has confirmed the news. “Very very disheartening to accept that Sanchari Vijay breathed his last. Met him couple of times just bfr this lockdown,,,, all excited about his nxt film,, tats due for release. Very sad. Deepest Condolences to his family and friends. RIP.” Sudeep wrote on Twitter.

“He (Vijay) was in a serious condition when we received him in the Emergency Department. A CT scan of the brain was done which showed very severe brain injury in addition to a subdural hematoma (brain bleeding). An immediate brain surgery was done to remove the brain haemorrhage. Currently he is in the Neuro ICU with full life support. He continues to be in a coma state and is very critical. We are monitoring his medical condition constantly and are providing him with the best possible treatment,” said Dr Arun Naik, senior consultant neurosurgeon at the Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru.

Vijay made his debut with 2011 Kannada film Rangappa Hogbitna. He has appeared in a slew of Kannada films including Dasavala, Harivu, Oggarane, Killing Veerappan, Riktha, Krishna Tulasi, Varthamana and Sipaayi among others. The actor rose to fame with his performance in the 2015 movie Naanu Avanalla Avalu, which also fetched him a Best actor National award. He was last seen in the 2020 Kannada film Act 1978.

May his soul rest in peace!
