Tamil megastar and Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi . During the meeting, the ace actor placed a few requests before the Prime Minister. In a tweet, Kamal Haasan wrote that he had made a solemn request to the Prime Minister to expedite the recognition of Keeladi’s antiquity.

He further stated that he requested the Prime Minister to extend his support to the Tamil people in showcasing to the world the grandeur of Tamil civilisation—and beyond that, to also promote the glory of the Tamil language.

Keeladi Antiquities

In recent years, the Keeladi village in the southern state of Tamil Nadu has undergone excavations, and experts have been able to excavate a bunch of archaeological finds that have sparked both political and historical debates. Experts from the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology estimate the artefacts to be 2,000 to 2,500 years old, with some of the oldest dating back to around 580 BCE.

These discoveries hold profound significance for our existing body of knowledge regarding the genesis of civilisation in the Indian subcontinent. According to experts, the findings have the potential to reshape current understanding and challenge established narratives about early Indian civilisations.

Over time, the Keeladi excavations have gained widespread recognition and have moved beyond the realm of archaeology—becoming a symbol of state pride and cultural identity.

A few days back, Superstar Kamal Haasan took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on 25th July 2025. The Tamil actor took his oath in Tamil to resounding thumps on the table by fellow Parliamentarians. The ‘Thug Life’ actor expressed his happiness on his significant political milestone.

The 69-year-old Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and actor-turned-politician, talking to mediapersons outside the parliament earlier actor said, “I am very proud and honoured.”Kamal Haasan’s election to the Upper House marks a significant milestone in his political journey, as he assumes a national legislative role for the first time.

He was nominated with the support of the ruling DMK-led alliance, which had promised him a Rajya Sabha seat in return for MNM’s support during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Kamal Haasan filed his nomination on June 6 at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin, Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, and DMK allies, including VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, MDMK’s Vaiko, and Tamil Nadu Congress chief Selvaperunthagai.
