Dhanush has grown into an international actor with his profound acting skills in the Kollywood industry. He was not supposed to become an actor if not for his father Kasthuri Raja and brother Selvaraghavan. Kasthuri Raja was a prominent director in the Tamil film industry during the 90s while Selvaraghvan made his debut film in 2002.

Today, Dhanush is recognised as an actor of quality and entertainment in Kollywood. However, he was very reluctant until his father and brother pursued him in the film Thulluvadho Illamai (2002). The film was directed by Selvaraghvan with Dhanush playing the lead role.

Thulluvadho Illamai was produced by M Ramakrishnan under Karthik Cine Vision production banner. The film turned out to be a success at the box office and made Selvaraghvan trust the actor in Dhanush.

Kadhal Kondein

Kadhal Kondein(2003) is the blockbuster success in the career of Dhanush and Selvraghavan. The Selvaraghavan directorial featured Sonia Aggarwal as the female lead.

The Yuvan Shankar Raja musical extracted the actor in Dhanush and introduced the Selvaraghavan genre to the Kollywood audience. The film also stars Nagesh, Sudeep Sarangi, Daniel Balaji, Srikanth and many others in supporting roles.

Pudhupettai

After the success of Kadhal Kondein, Dhanush grew as a notable actor in Kollywood via films such as Thiruda Thirudi, Devathayai Kanden and Adhu oru Kaana Kaalam.

In 2006, the brothers (Selvaraghavan and Dhanush) re-united for the cult film Pudhupettai. The film starred Sonia Agarwal and Sneha as the female leads among a plethora of well-known actors.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music elevated the gangster genre of the film and provided an epic aural experience to the fans in addition to the visual grandeur.  Let us take a brief look into the premise of Pudhupettai.

The film is about the life of an innocent young boy belonging to an economically depressed class who is called Kumar. Kumar’s early life becomes a mess as he goes through woeful experience after his father murders his mother.

Fearing his father’s vile nature, Kumar runs away from his house and becomes a gangster. He gets rechristened as Kokki Kumar and rules his kingdom in the underground don world. The ugly political conspiracy and uncertainties of a gangster’s life haunt Kokki Kumar until finally, he sets out free imbibing all the viciousness of the wretched world that he lives in.

Mayakkam Enna

By the time Mayakkam Enna (2011) was released, Dhanush was already a big star in Kollywood. The film revamped the brothers magic with a beautiful story about the life of a photographer.

Like Pudhupettai, Mayakkam Enna also became a cult classic for Kollywood fans. The film had music by Yuvan Shankar Raja while Ramji handled the cinematography

The journey of Dhanush and Selvaraghavan has the promising Naane Varuven and Ayirathil Oruvan 2 in the pipelines to amuse the fans
