J&k: Terrorist Neutralized In Overnight Gunfight In Dachigam Srinagar was Responsible For Gagengiar Attack

In a decisive operation against terrorism, a Lashker terrorist commander was killed during an overnight gunfight in the Dachigam area of Harwan, Srinagar, on Tuesday. The encounter, which unfolded late Monday evening, was executed by a joint team comprising Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces, following specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist activity in the region.

Authorities have indicated that the neutralized terrorist is likely Junaid Ramzan Bhat, a local commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, who was wanted in connection with the tragic Gagangir Sonmarg terrorist attack that claimed the lives of seven construction workers, including a doctor, on October 20, 2024.

The operation commenced with a cordon and search initiative aimed at locating the hiding terrorists. As security forces advanced into the area, they came under fire from the terrorists, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. The encounter resulted in the neutralization of one terrorist, with an M4 US-made carbine recovered from the site.

A senior police officer confirmed to News24 that efforts to secure the area are ongoing, with security forces maintaining a robust presence in and around the forested regions of upper Dachigam to prevent any potential escape of remaining terrorists.

The anti-terrorist operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of civilians in the region.
