J&K Police attach Rs 2 crore worth properties of Pahalgam terror attack outfit founder Sajjad Gul

In a strong move to crack down on the terror outfits in Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K police have attached Rs 2 crore worth properties of Sajjad Gul, the founder of the militant group ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Toiba, blamed for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. 25 tourists and a local ponywala were killed in the terrorist attack, where India retaliated against Pakistan through Operation Sindoor.

A police spokesman said that the police have attached Sajjad’s three-storey residential house constructed over 15 marlas of land (Survey No. 43 min, Estate Khushipora), located at Rose Avenue, HMT on the outskirts of Srinagar. The property is estimated to be approximately Rs 2 Crore. This according to the revenue records and verification from Tehsildar Central, Shalteng, Srinagar, belongs to the person named Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, S/o Khawja Anwar Sheikh, father of designated terrorist Sajad Ahmad Sheikh alias Sajad Gul. S.

Why did the police attach Sajjad Gul’s alias Sajad Ahmad Sheikh’s property

The police spokesman said the attachment has been executed in connection with FIR No. 235/2022 under sections 13, 38, 20 UAPA and 2/3 EIMCO Act, registered at Police Station Parimpora. “Proceedings were initiated under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), empowering authorities to attach properties used or intended to be used for terrorist activities. The action was carried out in the presence of the concerned Executive Magistrate,” the police spokesperson added.

“The action sends a clear message that individuals or entities aiding terrorism will face strict legal consequences, including the forfeiture of illegally acquired assets,” he said. Born on October 10, 1974, Gul was designated as a terrorist by the Home Ministry in 2022.

About The Resistance Front (TRF)

The TRF is accused of carrying out several terror attacks in Kashmir, targeting both civilians and security forces. After the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, the United States declared the group a terrorist organisation. The TRF had also claimed responsibility for the April 22 attack, in which 25 tourists and a local pony operator were killed by terrorists.
