An Indian Army Jawan succumbed to injuries after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday. The exchange of fire is underway in the Basantgarh region of the Udhampur district. “Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established, and a fierce firefight ensued. One of our Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed despite the best medical efforts,” White Knight Corps, Indian Army, posted on X.
Earlier in the day, J&K Police informed: “Encounter has started between security forces and terrorists in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur.”
Meanwhile, Cordon and search operations are underway in the forest area of Tangmarg in Kulgam.
In another operation, the Romeo Force of the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) continued their joint efforts on Thursday for the 10th consecutive day. The joint operation is conducted in the forest area of Lasana in Poonch district. Reportedly, terrorists are believed to be hiding in the region. The search operations had started on April 15 after an exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists on April 14. Terrorists opened fire on the Romeo Force personnel, injuring one security personnel.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting extensive search operations in dense forest zones.
Regarding the update on Pahalgam terror attack, Central government has called an all-party meeting at 6 pm at the Parliament on Thursday. According to the sources, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to chair the meeting.
