Alia Bhatt returned to the big screen with her latest action drama ‘Jigra’. Despite receiving a good response, the movie had an underwhelming box-office collection and failed to create an impact like Alia’s previous movies. The movie revolves around a woman named Satya, who plans to break to into a jail to save her younger brother. According to reports, the OTT rights of ‘Jigra’ have already been purchased by a big streaming platform.
Jigra OTT Update:
According to a report by The Economic Times, Netflix has purchased the OTT rights of ‘Jigra’. The movie is likely to release on OTT in November or December 2024 because films usually have 45 to 60 days of OTT window.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vasan Bala revealed how the failure of ‘Jigra’ came as a surprise for him. He said, “For me, it has always been a struggle to put the film out. But this time, it was a given that the film was going to be out and in a big way. So this is a first for me, and I don’t even know how to process this. What I do know is there is a certain responsibility in the mainstream to deliver (at the) box office.”
He added, “The surprise was the failure because you obviously don’t set out to fail. Also, this was not a very stubborn, I-will-only-deliver-it-this-way kind of film. I thought it was a pretty accessible, straight-arrow film, and the emotions were universal.”
Talking about if he feels he disappointed Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, the filmmaker said, “I do feel it. I feel it majorly. I mean, they are supremely supportive, and there is no ounce of letting me feel like this. It is something that I have to grapple with.”
The movie also stars Vedang Raina in the lead role. This is his second movie after his debut in ‘The Archies’.
