Javed Akhtar Hits Back At Trolls Over Rohit Sharma Remark, Calls Them ‘Neech’!

Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently responded sharply to social media users who accused him of body-shaming Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma. The controversy erupted after Akhtar praised Virat Kohli for his stellar performance in India’s semifinal victory against Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Following India’s triumph at the Dubai International Stadium, Javed Akhtar took to his official X account to applaud Kohli’s contribution. He wrote, “Once again, Virat has proved that he is the strongest pillar of today’s Indian cricket’s edifice!!! Hats off!!”

Troll Accuses Javed Akhtar Of Body-Shaming Rohit Sharma

In response to his post, a social media user questioned Javed Akhtar’s choice of words, writing, “If Virat is the strongest pillar, then who is Rohit Sharma? The heaviest pillar? Shame on you, Javed Saab, for fat-shaming the Indian captain.”

Refusing to stay silent, Javed lashed out at the troll, calling them a “cockroach” and dismissing the claims as baseless. He clarified that he deeply respects Rohit Sharma and all great Indian cricketers, stating, “What kind of a pathetic liar you are to claim that I have spoken against a great player like Rohit? Think about why you are such a vile and disgusting person.”

Not The First Time Javed Akhtar Has Fought Back

This is not the first time Javed Akhtar has taken a stand against online trolling. After India’s win against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he praised Kohli’s century, writing, “Virat Kohli, Zindabad! We are so proud of you!” However, a troll attempted to communalise the victory by writing, “Javed, say that Kohli is Babar’s father. Say Jai Shree Ram.” Javed Akhtar strongly condemned the remark, replying, “You are a vile person and will die as one. You have no idea what true patriotism is.”

Javed Akhtar’s bold responses have once again sparked debate on social media, proving that he is unafraid to call out online hate.
