Jammu And Kashmir: Security Forces Intensify Operations To Disrupt Terrorist Communication

In a decisive move to dismantle the communication networks utilized by terrorists in the J&K, security forces have ramped up operations targeting the misuse of mobile SIM cards. This initiative has led to multiple raids across various districts of Kashmir including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Budgam, Kulgam, Samba and Kishtwar, resulting in the arrest of over 300 individuals for questioning and detention of over suspects so far.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police emphasize that these measures are crucial in preventing unauthorized issuance and abuse of mobile SIM cards. “Our goal is to ensure the security and integrity of communication networks throughout the region,” stated Imtiyaz Hussain, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar.

Since 2022, the police have filed approximately 38 FIRs related to SIM card misuse, where individuals involved in unlawful acts and terrorism were found using SIM cards registered under someone else’s name. As a consequence of these efforts, 323 arrests have been made, and licenses for 587 SIM card vendors have been revoked for failing to comply with regulations.

In an effort to ensure compliance, police have conducted visits to all SIM card vendors in the Kashmir Valley. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and verify the backgrounds of individuals before issuing SIM cards. The police have made it clear that anyone found violating these rules or misusing SIM cards for terrorist activities will face stringent legal repercussions.

SSP Hussain reiterated the police’s commitment to preventing any government-provided facilities from being exploited for terror-related activities. “Those providing SIM cards or logistical support to terrorists should be prepared to face consequences. Any breach of trust in this matter will not be tolerated,” he warned.

The intensified crackdown comes in response to a recent terror attack on an ex-army man and his family in Kulgam district, prompting security forces to launch extensive anti-terror operations throughout the Kashmir Valley.
