The Jammu and Kashmir Police thwarted a planned protest march by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Srinagar , resulting in the detention of several prominent party leaders. The demonstration, which commenced from the PDP headquarters, Srinagar, aimed to draw attention to pressing civic issues affecting the region, including soaring electricity tariffs, acute shortages of drinking and irrigation water, and the call for relocating Kashmiri detainees back to local jails.

As the protest unfolded, police intervened, detaining key figures within the party, including General Secretaries Abdul Haq Khan and Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, and several other senior leaders and activists. Among those detained were spokesperson M Iqbal Tramboo, former MLAs Sheikh Noor Mohammad and Gulzar Ahmad Wani, as well as district presidents from various area’s.

PDP leader Ghulam Nabi Hanjura expressed his disappointment and frustration, condemning the government for preventing the protest aimed at highlighting essential public concerns. “Isn’t it a dictatorship that this protest was not allowed by the government?” questioned PDP leader Hanjura.
