There is no denying that like every other industry, the Hindi entertainment industry works on nepotism and favouritism. There are some stars, who have managed to create their mark, based on their talent and dedication. One such actress is Kanika Maheshwari, who is best known for essaying the role of Meenakshi, in Diya Aur Baati Hum. She had given her own touch to the character. For Kanika, it was difficult to break into the world of TV.

In an interview with Times Now Digital, the actress opened up about her journey as an actress, and about a horrific auditioning experience.

“A little bit of bullying was a part of our journey. When you come from a family background, where you have never seen a shooting, people coming from different cities, you feel lonely and all alone by yourself. You hardly know people. There are times when you take bullying personally. At times, you take it in a supportive way. I used to think, if I was scared, more people will scare me. In life, it is all up to you. How you want to take it? Do you want to take it positively? Agar aap daroge toh 10 log daraenge (If you get scared, 10 people will scare you). Darna nai hai(One should not be scared)”, she said.

Talking further about the actress she had won many awards for her character of Meenakshi from Diya Aur Baati Hum. “I was associated with the show since the pilot happened. It was a very nice and well-written role. Within three months, my show and character got so famous that everybody just wanted Meenakshi bhabi. People loved me because somewhere or the other Meenakshi characters are there. That happened and everything went so well, from awards, rewards to appreciation”, she said.

Kanika further revealed details about preparing for her character Meenakshi. “It is just that there was like, wo character ,marwadi background ka tha and I was from that background. I thought of few women I met in my life”, she added.

Talking about whether it was difficult for her to break the image of Meenakshi, she said, “To be honest, it is still a struggle. If you see Amjad Khan, you will remember Gabbar. He may have done many films, but even Amrish Puri is known as Mogambo. It is difficult to break and I am numb with that. I struggled to break the image. If people want to think on that basis, I am fine with it.”

On the work front, the actress is seen in Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, where she is playing the role of Mogar. The romantic periodic drama has been produced by Shashi and Sunit Mittal.
