‘I’ve worked in nine films with my wife and…’ When Abhishek spoke about Aishwarya getting paid more than him

There’s often a discussion of what happens when a wife makes more money than a husband. While various couples speak about the good, bad, and ugly of it, our Bollywood actors have been nothing but encouraging when their wife makes more than them, in fact, they’re their wife’s loudest cheerleaders! Most fans laud Ranveer Singh for the most progressive and perfect husband a girl could get, but any moons before Ranveer tied the knot to Deepika Padukone, it was Abhishek Bachchan who set the internet into a collective mush meltdown with his love for one of the most beautiful women in the world, Aishwarya Rai.

Whether it was putting up a post of Aishwarya Rai walking down the red carpet at Cannes or sharing the cutest anniversary post for his ladylove, the couple was all things adorable. Back in 2018, Abhishek in interaction with filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, had spoken about the wage gap in Bollywood and whether he would be okay with his daughter entering showbiz.

Shoojit had quizzed Abhishek on how would he react to Aaradhya entering Bollywood to which he said, “No. But before I answer that, I would like to give this some context and perspective. The two women who are close to me, my mother and my wife have worked in the industry on their own terms. They’ve never been forced to do anything they didn’t want to do.”

“There’s a huge debate on gender parity in the film business and in other industries. I’ve worked in nine films with my wife and in eight of those, she’s got paid more than I have. The highest-paid actor in Piku was Deepika (Padukone). It’s a business and if you are a saleable actor, you get paid accordingly. You can’t be a new actress and demand to be paid the same as Shah Rukh Khan,” he then added.

Abhishek and Aishwarya first worked together in Dhai Akshay Prem Ke. The duo was then seen together in Kuch Na Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2, Guru, Sarkar Raj, Guru and Raavan. The couple was also to work in Anurag Kashyap’s next directorial venture that was touted to be titled Gulab Jamun. Fans were eagerly waiting to see the couple on the 70mm once again. There have also been rumours that the project has been shelved.

Abhishek and Aishwarya may be very private about their off-screen lives, but that hasn’t stopped them from shelling out goals for their fans all the time!
