‘It’s My Job To Back That Aggression’ – Rohit Sharma Backs Mohammed Siraj After His Fiery Send-Off Controversy With Travis Head

The Australian batter Travis Head was in supreme touch, hitting 140 runs off just 141 balls and looked set to score much more. However, his innings were cut short when he was bowled out by a lethal yorker from Mohammed Siraj in the 82nd over. Head could not get his bat down in time and the ball rattled his stumps.

Heated Spat After Travis Head’s Dismissal

Travis Head’s dismissal led to a heated moment as Siraj celebrated with a fiery send-off, but Head was not going to let that go without a response. The two exchanged words before Head walked off to a standing ovation from the Adelaide Oval crowd, while Siraj faced boos from the spectators.

Rohit Sharma Backs Mohammed Siraj

Rohit Sharma addressed the post-match press conference and highlighted about the heated spat between Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head. He mentioned that Siraj likes getting into the battle and a till the time the game is not disrespected and the line is maintained he will back the aggression.

“Having A Word Or Two With The Opposition Is Not A Bad Thing”

“Yeah, he likes to get into the battle. It gives him success. As the captain, it’s my job to back that aggression. Obviously, there’s a fine line-we don’t want to cross anything that disrespects the game. But having a word or two with the opposition is not a bad thing. He likes it, and it gets him going. In the past, we’ve seen many cricketers thrive in such battles, and Siraj is definitely one of them,” Rohit said in the press-conference.

“Thin Line Between Being Aggressive & Crossing Limit”

“That said, there’s a thin line between being aggressive and crossing the limit. As captain, it’s my responsibility to ensure we don’t cross that line. A word or two here and there doesn’t make a huge difference,” he added.

“Siraj Knows What He Needs To Do”

“Our players are used to performing in big crowds. When things go well, they support; when things don’t, they don’t, that happens everywhere. Siraj knows what he needs to do for the team. His job is to take wickets, and he will do everything required to achieve that. External factors don’t matter to him. The team is mature enough to keep such distractions out and focus on the game,” Rohit further added.
