It’s confirmed! Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif’s Sooryavanshi to release on Diwali after cinemas re-open in Mumbai

It was announced just a few moments ago that cinema halls will re-open in Maharashtra from October 22, 2021. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray took the decision after his meeting with film producers, exhibitors, and other notable personalities from the entertainment industry. Now, it’s confirmed that the much-anticipated Sooryavanshi will hit the screens on Diwali 2021. The film, which was completed before the COVID-19 pandemic, had put its release on halt after the halls were shut owing to the COVID-19 wave across the country.

The news was confirmed on social media by trade analyst Taran Adarah, who had previously hinted that the makers of Sooryavanshi are eyeing a Diwali release already. “IT’S OFFICIAL… ‘SOORYAVANSHI’ ARRIVES IN *CINEMAS* THIS DIWALI… The wait is over! It’s time to watch movies on BIG SCREEN again… #Sooryavanshi #RohitShetty #AkshayKumar #KatrinaKaif #Diwali #AjayDevgn #RanveerSingh #RelianceEntertainment #KaranJohar,” read a tweet on his official account. Diwali falls on November 4 this year.

Akshay also took to social media to express his gratitude towards Maharashtra CM and shared release news too. “So many families would be thanking Sh Uddhav Thackeray today! Grateful for allowing the reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra from Oct 22. Ab kisi ke roke na rukegi – AA RAHI HAI POLICE. #Sooryavanshi #Diwali2021. @itsrohitshetty @ajaydevgn @ranveersingh @katrinakaif @reliance.entertainment @dharmamovies @tseries.official #CapeOfGoodFilms,”

Interestingly, Diwali is the first big festival after the cinema halls re-open in Maharashtra. And Sooryavanshi, directed by Rohit Shetty, may very well be the first big release in Maharashtra amid the pandemic. Co-starring Katrina Kaif, the film marks an addition to Shetty’s cop universe, which previously included Singham and Simmba. The film will also have special appearances by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, both of whom had arrived in style at the trailer launch of the film almost a year ago

The trailer launch was a grand event, where all the stars of the film had arrived in their luxurious rides. Sooryavanshi, however, is not the only film that is anticipated in the coming months. Kabir Khan’s 83, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, can also be announced anytime soon. The film stars Ranveer in the role of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, and also has Deepika Padukone in the role of his wife, Romi Bhatia. Several other films that are completed are awaiting release on the big screen. Looks like the cine-goers are in for surprise after surprise in the coming days.
