Issue of wrong depiction of Indian map ‘strongly’ raised with WHO: Govt in Rajya Sabha

The Central government strongly raised the issue of the wrong depiction of the map of India on a World Health Organisation (WHO) website with the organisation, MoS MEA V Muraleedharan told the Rajya Sabha .

He further informed that in response to India’s query, WHO told the Permanent Mission of India in Geneva that they have put a disclaimer on the portal.

The disclaimer reads, “The designations employed and the presentation of these materials do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of WHO concerning the legal status of any country, territory or area or of its authorities or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.”

“Dotted and dashed lines on maps represent approximate border lines for which there may not yet be full agreement,” it reads further.

In his written reply to the unstarred question in Rajya Sabha over the wrong depiction of the map, V Muraleedharan further said, “Nevertheless, Government of India’s position on the right depiction of its boundaries has been unambiguously reiterated.”

Yesterday, Trinamool Congress MP Dr Santanu Sen said that Jammu and Kashmir has been shown as a part of China and Pakistan in the world map used on the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Covid-19 dashboard.

Calling it a serious international issue, the TMC MP said that the Indian government should have checked it and taken up the issue much before.

The Trinamool MP said that the people of India should be intimated as to how such a major mistake is remaining overlooked.
