Israeli Airstrikes On Houthi Ports Trigger Shelter Rush As Hezbollah Rockets Hit Northern Cities

Israel has conducted airburst attacks on two strategic battlegrounds of the rising regional conflicts, Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon. This marks the most intensified escalation by Israel in its military battles, primarily because of a ballistic missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Israel and continued intimidation by Hezbollah. Israeli forces have carried out an airburst attack hitting major sites, including power stations and seaports used by Iran in transporting arms. These strikes come in the wake of the assassination of the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, which would further propel violence in Lebanon, meaning that more than a million Israelis are once again dashing for shelter after Hezbollah fired missiles at Haifa and other northern regions, causing widespread alarm and concern over all sections of the population.

Israel Strikes Back Against Hezbollah, Houthis
The Sunday attacks were against two entities: Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon. These groups have been actively engaged in hostilities with Israel. Their reaction to it was the firing of a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport. The Houthis have faced continuous retaliation from Israel, especially after the killing of Nasrallah and other top commanders. Other airstrikes have been conducted in Yemen as well as Lebanon by Israel in a bid to weaken these groups and prevent attacks in the future. Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, clarified that nothing is too far for a missile launched by Israelis to reach for the reason that the country would go to any extreme measures to keep its people safe from this punishment.

Israel Targets Houthi Strongholds In Yemen
Israeli forces in Yemen had attacked Houthi-held areas. Their targets included military points such as seaports and power plants; all those were reportedly the Houthis’ places of dumping arms transshipments imported from Iran. Four people were killed and more than 30 injured in the attacks, according to Houthi-backed media. The IDF confirmed that dozens of aircraft including fighter jets, reconnaissance aircraft, and tanker planes, which took part in this large-scale operation. This is not the first time Israel has attacked Yemen; in July, an Israeli attack on the Hodeida port resulted in significant damage after a Houthi drone struck Tel Aviv, killing a civilian. The Israeli Defense Forces reaffirmed that these attacks were a retaliation of recent attacks from the Houthi regime against Israel.

Escalating Situation In Lebanon
In Lebanon, Israel has launched a wave of airstrikes against Hezbollah, hitting over 120 targets in one day. The airstrikes are after the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, on Friday. The Israeli military said it had demolished Hezbollah’s top echelon leadership, including Nasrallah’s right-hand man, Fuad Shukr, and other senior commanders. Still, Hezbollah continues to retaliate: hundreds of rockets and drones aimed toward Israel. Most of these were intercepted by Israeli defense systems, but enough damage and injuries have been caused.

Hezbollah Leadership Decimated By Israeli Strikes
When targeting Hezbollah, the Israeli military zeroed in on the command structure, aiming to break down the group’s capability. The attack has claimed the lives of other high-ranking Hezbollah commanders, including group’s chief commander in southern Lebanon Ali Karake, and Nabil Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council. The strikes thrust Hezbollah into a leadership vacuum but are likely to try to regain lost ground. Israeli and US officials have said that the death of these leaders has significantly debilitated Hezbollah. White House spokesman John Kirby has also been quoted.

Civilian Casualties Rise From Israeli Strikes
Israeli air strikes on both Lebanon and Yemen also killed civilians. In Lebanon, more than 50 individuals were reported dead and dozens more were injured in airstrikes near Sidon and Baalbek. The casualties are likely to rise with the search efforts of the rescue teams looking for survivors buried under debris. The civilians who are residents of buildings marked for bombing have been victims of friendly fire, losing their houses and lives. Medical teams were the target, with 14 medics reported dead in southern Lebanon over the past two days.
