Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw set to be retained by their respective IPL franchises

The IPL franchises will be undergoing mega changes in the next season as there will be a mega auction in 2022. The franchises are allowed to retain certain numbers of players before the auction and they always have an opportunity to buy their former players. Still, the teams bear a completely new look after every 4-year cycle.

Ahead of the mega-auction for IPL 2022, the franchises would be keen to retain their core. As per ESPNcricinfo, a franchise will be allowed to retain 4 players whereas the two new teams will be allowed to pick 3 players before the auction.

While there are some automatic retentions like Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings), a report has suggested the franchises will be backing their young guns too.

As per The New Indian Express, youngsters Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prithvi Shaw are set to be retained by their respective IPL franchises. Kishan is part of MI, Gaikwad plays for CSK whereas Shaw has been with Delhi Capitals since 2018.

Out of these 3 players, only Gaikwad delivered the results consistently and piled up 635 runs in IPL 2021 to win the Orange Cap. Kishan only managed 241 runs and was also dropped from the playing XI on many occasions. Shaw scored 479 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 159.13 but had a lean patch as well.

Kishan has a salary of Rs 6.2 crore. Gaikwad had joined CSK for Rs 20 lakh and the franchise will be saving a huge amount by retaining him. Shaw was bought by DC for Rs 1.2 crore.

Apart from these 3 players, the report also adds that Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja are among those who will remain with their present franchises. Rishabh, Bumrah, and Jadeja were retained before IPL 2018 mega-auction as well.

There will be no Right to Match card this time and the franchises will have to take the final call on their players before the auction.
