Is Bharat Arun Shifting From KKR To LSG? Will It Be A ‘Game-Changer’ For Lucknow Franchise

As the hype around IPL 2026 starts, teams have already started working behind closed doors to reorganise their teams and backroom personnel. Among the first rumours making the rounds is Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) interest in the services of former KKR bowling coach Bharat Arun.

Why Bharat Arun?

LSG are also said to be searching for Arun to join their coaching team together with Zaheer Khan, forming a powerhouse combination with a solid lineage in fast bowling and player growth. Arun had his stint terminated at Kolkata Knight Riders mere weeks ago, and LSG appear keen to pick him up sooner rather than later.

What Did Arun Do at KKR?

Hired in 2022, Bharat Arun played four years with KKR. Although they didn’t make the playoffs in 2022, 2023, and 2025, KKR lifted the trophy in 2024, securing the top spot in the table. Arun spent plenty of time working with leading bowlers such as Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc, assisting them to regain rhythm and consistency.

Known for being a patient mentor, he played a crucial role during KKR’s rebuilding phase in 2023, which led to their title win the next year.

Why LSG Need Him?

Death bowling remained LSG’s weakest link in IPL 2025, with the side conceding runs in the last overs while having a good middle-order bowling attack spearheaded by Digvesh Rathi. Arun is a process-based coach who focuses on long-term player development – a trait that would suit LSG’s promising young bowling base impeccably.

LSG’s administration feels that by combining Arun and Zaheer, they will gain much-needed strategic depth and leadership in the bowling department.

Interesting Points to Note

This may be the initial collaboration of two erstwhile India bowling coaches Zaheer and Arun, at an IPL franchise. Arun’s addition may release the potential of Indian pacers such as Yash Thakur or Mayank Yadav, providing LSG with a good Indian pace base.

Arun’s training methodology goes in line with LSG’s aim of creating a sustainable, long-term unit instead of resting on short-term fixes. With IPL 2026 likely to witness a few format adjustments and conditions updates, having a seasoned head such as Arun on board could be a shrewd, visionary decision.

If LSG are successful in sealing this deal, it won’t merely be an addition to the coaching staff – it could very well be the cornerstone of a title-winning side in the not-too-distant future.
