Iran has warned that it has prepared a list of major energy facilities across the Middle East that could be targeted if the United States or Israel launches fresh attacks on the country.
The warning came after reports claimed that US President Donald Trump is considering military strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure. However, no final decision has been made.
Iran names major oil and gas facilities
According to Iran’s Tasnim News, Tehran has prepared a plan to strike important oil and gas facilities across the region if new attacks are launched against Iran.
The reported list includes Saudi Arabia’s Ghawar oil field, the world’s largest conventional oil field. Iran also named the Abqaiq and Khurais oil facilities, which together produce more than seven million barrels of oil every day.
In the United Arab Emirates, the reported targets include the Zakum oil field and the Ruways refinery.
Iran also listed Qatar’s North Field and Ras Laffan, two of the world’s biggest natural gas facilities that play a major role in global LNG exports.
Other reported targets include Kuwait’s Burgan oil field, Bahrain’s Sitrah refinery and Al-Mihaj, along with Israel’s Leviathan and Tamar gas fields.
Iran warns of strong response
A senior Iranian security official, quoted by Tasnim News, said Iran has prepared a “comprehensive plan” to respond if the US takes military action.
The official warned that any new attack would be met with retaliation against key energy infrastructure in the region.
Trump yet to make final decision
The warning comes after an Axios report said President Donald Trump is seriously considering strikes on Iranian energy and infrastructure targets.
According to the report, Trump has not yet made a final decision. The proposed strikes are said to be aimed at increasing pressure on Iran during ongoing ceasefire negotiations.
The report also said Israel could take part in the operation if it goes ahead, raising concerns that the conflict could expand further across the Middle East.
The situation remains tense, with no official announcement from the White House on whether military action will be approved.
