IPL 2026 Trade Window: BIG Turn Around? CSK Might Target KL Rahul Instead Of Sanju Samson – KKR And RR Still Race

The 2025 IPL season was nothing short of a nightmare for the Chennai Super Kings. The five-time champions, who’ve long been synonymous with success, ended up at the very bottom of the table. The absence of MS Dhoni’s calm leadership and sharp cricketing mind was clearly felt and it reignited the long-standing question: Who can truly fill the void left by Dhoni?

For years, Dhoni’s impact went beyond his batting and wicket-keeping. He read the game from behind the stumps, guided his bowlers intelligently, and often rescued the team with the bat in pressure situations. Finding a replacement for such an iconic presence isn’t easy but one name is starting to gain traction: KL Rahul.

The Perfect Blueprint

If CSK manage to pull off a trade for KL Rahul, it could solve multiple problems at once. Rahul brings a Dhoni-like calmness, can captain, keep wickets, and perform reliably with the bat – all traits the Super Kings desperately need in the post-Dhoni era.

Kolkata Knight Riders In Race!

3-times IPL champions KKR’s 2025 campaign showed clear inefficiencies with their overseas wicketkeeping options. Both Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz failed to deliver the consistency expected. This made the team overly dependent on their foreign players, restricting flexibility.

Bringing in KL Rahul could fix that problem instantly. As a domestic keeper-batter, he’d open up a valuable overseas slot – giving KKR a chance to bring in a world-class pacer or middle-order batter to strengthen their lineup.

Rajasthan Royals Too Keen On Rahul

There’s strong buzz around Sanju Samson potentially being traded to CSK. If that move materializes, Rajasthan Royals will suddenly find themselves without a captain and a quality Indian keeper-batter. That’s where KL Rahul could become their top target.

The Royals might look to trade Shimron Hetmyer to Delhi Capitals in exchange. While Hetmyer offers power-hitting and experience to DC, Rahul would perfectly fit into the Royals’ leadership and top-order framework if Samson departs.

The Transfer Verdict

Indian wicket-keeper-batters who can also lead and consistently perform are a rare breed in the IPL ecosystem. That rarity gives KL Rahul a strong market value heading into the 2026 season.

For Delhi Capitals, it’s decision time: Do they build around Rahul for the long term, or cash in on his peak value while demand is high?

If they choose the latter, Chennai Super Kings appear best positioned to seal the deal – especially with the pressure of finding a worthy successor to MS Dhoni growing louder by the day.
