KKR has denied the claims of having a home advantage in IPL 2025 after being criticised for the Eden Gardens pitch. The curator Sujan Mukherjee has defended himself, stating that no KKR player or official approached him with any pitch requirements. His response comes after being accused of not preparing a pitch suited to KKR in their match against RCB. Mukherjee firmly stated that he never refused KKR any requests and prepared the pitch strictly in accordance with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) guidelines.
Eden Gardens Curator Stands Firm On Pitch Conditions
After KKR’s defeat to RCB in the IPL 2025 opening match, the Kolkata captain expressed a desire for a pitch that would help the spinners. However, Eden Gardens curator Sujan Mukherjee firmly defended his stance, by saying that the pitch conditions would remain unchanged under his supervision. “As long as I’m here, Eden Gardens pitch will not change. As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch.” he said. He stated this after facing criticism about the fact that the surface did not provide KKR with the expected home advantage.
Curator Defends Pitch, Questions KKR’s Bowling Performance
Mukherjee further backed his claim by highlighting about the fact that the RCB’s spinners effectively utilized the conditions, unlike KKR’s bowlers. “Ever since I have taken charge, the pitches here have been like this. RCB spinners took four wickets between them. What did the KKR spinners do?” he questioned. His comments imply that the problem is not with the pitch but instead with the KKR’s inability to utilize the conditions. Despite the backlash, he maintained that the pitch was prepared in accordance with BCCI regulations.
